Childress takes his spot atop of the No. 27 Sprint Cup hauler to watch over his four teams during the XFINITY Series race. He radios each team with last minute advice, “Have a good race out there, take care of your stuff and the boys will take care of you. Boys no mistakes in the pits, lets go win this.”

He frequently checks on timing and scoring, but doesn’t come off the hauler during the race, focusing on his teams throughout the duration of the event.

“I used to sit on the pit box when we had one car, now with multiple cars I always get up high enough so I can see the cars on track. If I see something that’ll help the driver, crew or crew chief, I’ll use my past experience to help them out.”

RCR’s four teams performed well, with the No. 33 team nearly capturing victory. Childress is pleased with the performance, but would be happier with the “W”.
